pictures from a camping trip (two months ago!)

These pictures are from a camping trip we took waaay back in October. I figure as long as I post them before Christmas I'm doing good. We spent the weekend in the tiny town of Crozet, Virginia. We listened to The Statler Brothers (yeah, we brought a record player on our camping trip), ate delicious goulash, spent a lot of hours sitting around the fire and playing games. On Saturday, we visited the historic Swananoa mansion. It was beautiful and creepy all at the same time. The neat part about it is that it was built by James Dooley, who also built the beautiful Maymont here in Richmond. James and his wife used Swananoa as their summer home. The house overlooks the Shenandoah Valley and actually sits in two counties! Even though I could imagine what it once looked like, the house is in a state of disrepair now. The gardens are grown over and the marble walls are crumbling. I started getting weirded out when I saw black cats clawing at the basement windows, trying to get out. Yeesh! This would be a great place to visit on Halloween.

The weather was perfect all weekend. It was warm and sunny during the day and just chilly enough at night to make snuggling under a boatload of quilts feel good. We packed a picnic lunch for Saturday afternoon and ate at the base of Humpback Rocks. While the others hiked the mountain, Mark and I drove around downtown Crozet and found a beautiful field to take some engagement pictures in. We've been taking our own engagement pictures, using a tripod, and so far I've loved the way they've turned out. We take a few more each weekend when we get chance. I've been meaning to share some on here. Maybe before the new year, yeah?
