a river weekend

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

We spent this past weekend on the Rappahanock River in the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia. For those of you who haven't had the privilege of visiting the Northern Neck, it is a world all its own. They even have their own language. Seriously, it differs too much from English to be called an accent. In my opinion, life moves slower there. At least on the river it does. We spent the day soaking up the sun, fishing (Mark), kayaking, eating watermelon, chasing a rambunctious three-year-old, and talking about how we might just stay there forever. We ended the day by making hobo wraps on the grill - which, by the way, is the best food invention ever! You chop up raw chicken, bell peppers, squash, potatoes, and any other vegetables you'd like, pour in lots of oil and butter, shake some Lowry's seasoning on top and then wrap in aluminum foil. Throw it on the grill and let it all simmer together. Deeeelicious! Needless to say, we stuffed our bellies. Weekends like this should happen more often.
