After our stroll around Williamsburg last week, we drove a few miles to Jamestown. Mostly because a huge storm was rolling in and we didn't want to be caught outside. The last time I visited the Jamestown settlement was on a second grade field trip. It didn't make a big enough impression on me then to want to visit again. The Jamestown area, however, is beautiful -- especially when a summer thunderstorm is rolling in on the James River. We drove down the Island Loop Drive pictured above and Mark cracked me up by reading the informational plaques along the drive in his "official historian" voice. We were the only ones on the drive, except for a huge black snake who crossed the road in front of us. It was eery and kinda cool, all at the same time.
