Another Year, Another Beach Trip | St. Augustine 2017

Monday, July 24, 2017

We spent a week in July in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida with Mark's family. Our condo was just steps from the beach which couldn't have been more perfect for this beach lover. My favorite thing was shuffling outside in the morning before I was even fully awake and waking up to the sound of the ocean. A full week is the perfect amount of time to lose track of time while falling into a vacation rhythm. Most days started with a walk down the beach and some Siggi's on the back patio before hauling our tent and chairs out to the beach for the day.

On the Fourth of July, we ventured into St. Augustine to watch the fireworks from the Bridge of Lions. The bridge was shut down to boat and vehicle traffic so we got to walk to the center of the bridge for the perfect view over the Mantanzas Bay. Watching the fireworks burst over the water with the outline of sailboats in the background was so beautiful!

Some other perks included the obligatory seafood dinner, doing BBG workouts on the beach, watching the sun rise and set over the ocean, walking along St. George Street, taking numerous naps on the beach, and eating popsicles from The Hyppo. Mark is not a beach lover and gets bored easily unless there's stuff to do. I, on the other hand, had a grand time rotating between reading books, taking naps, and walking on the beach. Vacations are meant to be as lazy as possible and I think it's safe to say I achieved that on this trip!

What's your preference: vacations that involve doing stuff or just laying on a beach all day?

If you're in a photo-browsing mood, here are some posts from previous trips to St. Augustine. It was fun looking back through these posts and remembering so many years going to the same place (and eating the same popsicles :) - some of these were before Mark and I were even married!
