The Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman
It seemed fitting to read a book about a lighthouse while at the beach. I really liked this one, although I was a little unsatisfied with the ending. The story is about a lighthouse keeper and his wife who have suffered through numerous miscarriages only to have a baby unexpectedly show up one day in a shipwreck. They decide not to report the incident and keep the baby which leads to all sorts of hard decisions and guilty consciences down the road. It's one of those books that makes you wrestle with your own self over what you would do in the characters' shoes — which, at least for me, usually leads to unsatisfactory endings. Still, a very good storyline for a book!

Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
I can't remember why I jotted this book down on my list of books to read. I couldn't even remember what it was about, but I picked it up from the library anyway and instantly couldn't put it down. I don't normally read non-fiction books about Islam but this one was shockingly eye-opening and relevant to current events. I highly recommend reading it if you have any interest at all in immigration, Islam, and Middle East culture.
